SOMIC launches new end of line packaging machine and product handling solution

New end of line packaging machine and product handling solution

SOMIC ensures flexibility for future packaging requirements

At Interpack, SOMIC introduces the new SOMIC 434 packaging machine generation and the pioneering CORAS product collection and grouping system. With these innovations, the end of line packaging specialists offer users in the food, non-food, cosmetics and pet food industries future-oriented solutions for even greater flexibility in end of line packaging. The 434 machine generation for wraparound and tray-lid packaging is based on a linear arrangement of stations from the carton forming module to the closing module. The new, slim layout can be easily integrated into the line concepts of filling and packaging lines and replaces SOMIC’s previous machine concepts.

SOMIC 434 – the new features

The stations in a stainless steel frame provide a consistently tidy structure in the machine, creating optimal conditions for future expansions. The collecting and grouping unit is integrated in a separate frame construction, which supports the machine’s flexibility when changing packaging concepts. In addition to flexibility, the new machine offers yet another benefit in terms of user-friendliness: Most of the format adjustments are controlled by means of servomotors. By using the SOMIC QuickChange System to adjust folding tools, gluing positions and the blank magazine and to change individual format parts, the SOMIC 434 allows for time savings of up to 70% compared to its predecessor. Unimpeded access to the machine’s interior as well as perfect ergonomic working conditions are provided by the frame’s support structure, which has been moved to the inside and accommodates the functional groups. This is aided by the 180-degree opening of the machine guard doors, which makes it possible to use the entire space around the machine. Highly visible LED lights on the corner columns indicate the machine’s operational state even from a distance.

CORAS collection and grouping system

With the introduction of the SOMIC CORAS collection and grouping system, SOMIC shows how collection and grouping tasks as well as product alignment can be performed with maximum flexibility. For unrestricted product grouping, SOMIC employs a drive and positioning system using planar technology and the carrier concept. The floating carriers can be programmed as required – including 360-degree rotations around the vertical axis – and assemble the products in the desired order. With this pioneering system, SOMIC’s customers can have their grouping and sorting tasks completed in only a fraction of the space required by pick-and-place applications. Moreover, the system can be expanded as desired by simply adding additional modules.
