Optimal protection meets shelf-ready presentation
The tray/cover packaging is a two-piece cardboard solution that combines maximum product protection during transport with an attractive presentation at the point of sale. In this packaging concept the cover sits on top of the tray. In retail it can be easily removed – the tray serves as a sales-ready display directly on the shelf.
Pre-packaging
- Folding cartons – cereals, muesli, tea bag packaging, baked goods
- Cans – coffee beans, cocoa tins, convenience products
- Jars – baby food, preserves, spreads, sauces
- Bottles – sauces, dressings, cleaning agents
- Stand-up pouches – ground coffee, snacks, pet food
- Thermoformed packaging – cheese, sausages, fresh meat, cold cuts
- Blister packs – healthcare products, cosmetics, small parts
The fully enclosed, two-piece construction reliably protects your products throughout transit:
- Fully enclosed – no ingress of dust, dirt or moisture
- Robust structure – mechanical stresses are safely absorbed
- Secure stacking – excellent stackability for efficient palletizing
- Flexible cover options – slip-on cover, glued cover or shoebox cover with short side flaps - depending on protection requirements
The tray becomes a sales display immediately after removing the cover:
- Ready for immediate use – lift off the cover and place the tray directly on the shelf
- No perforations – clean edges without tear-off tabs
- Maximum design freedom – tray and cover can be designed independently
- Slot-in cover option – for an adhesive-free presentation at the POS
The tray/cover packaging also excels in terms of cost and environmental performance:
- Optimized cardboard blank layouts – minimal trim waste, efficient material utilization
- Reduced material costs – cost-efficiency per packaging unit
- Lower CO₂ footprint – optimized material use means fewer emissions
- Recyclable – single-material cardboard packaging for easy disposal
The packaging process
- Feeding and grouping: Pre-packaged products are fed individually, accumulated and grouped to the desired carton contents.
- Positioning: The grouping is gently and securely positioned on the flat tray blank by the folding head.
- Tray formation: The tray carton is folded around the folding head and glued with hot-melt adhesive.
- Covering: The cover is folded over the package and likewise glued with hot-melt adhesive or alternatively inserted into the tray carton.
