A look inside a SOMIC 434 packaging machine for cartons

Stainless steel frame with integrated electrical installation

The SOMIC 434 machine generation is based on a robust stainless steel frame, which not only provides a solid structure, but also houses the entire electrical installation. This makes optimum use of the available space in the machine.

Stainless steel is both durable and hygienic. Its resistance to corrosion and ease of cleaning make it the ideal choice for use in demanding environments. The nature of the material also ensures a long service life for the machine.

The stability of the material makes it possible to provide barrier-free access to the machine. This means that our latest generation of packaging machines not only work particularly efficiently, but are also easy to access and maintain.

Combination of control and supply cabinet

One objective of the SOMIC 434 was to make the machine's noise environment even quieter. Noise-intensive components were relocated to a separate, insulated supply cabinet thanks to a combination of control and supply cabinet. This makes the machine even quieter during operation and also facilitates necessary maintenance work. The supply cabinet also houses the filling station for the gluing units.

The LED corner lighting shows the operating status of the machine at all times and from a distance. Whether in normal operation, during a test run or in packaging mode, it is possible to see from a distance which operating mode the machine is currently in - an additional contribution to safety in the work process.

Simple operation due to intelligent features

To ensure that the machine runs as smoothly as possible, we have integrated a number of features into the SOMIC 434 that make the packaging machine easier to use. A key feature is the intuitive control of all machine settings via touchscreen. 

Furthermore, considerably faster format changeovers have been achieved through maximum automation in conjunction with SOMIC Quick Change technology. This improvement minimizes downtime and maximizes performance by enabling adaptation to different packaging formats in the shortest possible time.

Good accessibility and high ergonomics are also key benefits of the SOMIC 434. Our design allows easy access to all relevant areas of the machine, facilitates maintenance and cleaning and increases safety and efficiency in the workplace.

Highly efficient format changeovers for short downtimes

Format changeovers are easier and more efficient than ever with the SOMIC 434. Thanks to the maximum degree of automation when changing formats and the universal quick-change technology, all format parts can be easily and safely changed automatically or without tools. This can achieve time savings of up to 70 percent. Downtimes are minimized and the efficiency of the packaging process is increased.

SOMIC offers the right conveyor and handling system for every type of packaging. Our range of services extends from the supply of individual conveyor belts to complete, turnkey conveying and handling systems. Flexible and intelligent, the belts not only perform classic transport tasks, but also complex handling tasks:

  • Line merging: for example, 90 degree line merges and the merging of four packaging lines into one
  • Rotating, turning or conditioning: Products are manipulated accordingly from the belt using sophisticated technical devices

Ergonomic working conditions

The SOMIC 434 has been equipped with a new door concept to create optimum ergonomic working conditions and facilitate format changes. These doors extend over the entire height of the machine and can be opened 180°. This not only facilitates access, but also makes the best possible use of the entire aisle area around the machine. This creates additional safety while still allowing the doors to open fully.   

The new frame design provides unobstructed access to the functional units and therefore ensures ideal ergonomic conditions for format changeovers, cleaning and maintenance. In addition, the new control and supply cabinet ensures even quieter working conditions.
